RV Log Monday, May 5, 2008 – MONUMENT VALLEY

Wow. I have some catching up to do!

Monument Valley. You know, you just have to see it for yourself. Words certainly do not do it justice, and most certainly, mine will not.

When I arrived I saw Gerardo taking it all in…..

There wasn’t enought room at the Lodge for me so I stayed in the RV, which of course I never got leveled because I tripped a breaker and had not located that particular element of the RV…… Comfortable as it was, the mattress was covered in plastic and my nylon sleeping bag was no match for the slant on plastic. So the end result was me in my sleeping bag occasionally waking up to slide myself back up to a normal position on the bed. Note to self: get this thing leveled!

But the view from my window was well worth any amount of adjustments. You can see the shadow of the RV at the bottom of the frame….

When the new hotel opens in the Fall, the room views will be very similar!

Bobby & Tommy D at our dinner table at the Vistor’s Center:

Here Big Bob and Mike Hernandez figure out what’s next:

Bobby Aguilar enjoys a stroll with a view…..

RV Log Tuesday, May 6 – ANTELOPE CANYON MARINA, LAKE POWELL

Thanks to the engineering savvy of Tom Heidinger, the RV was level, and I went sledding no more……

Lake Powell is always fabulous. The show went well….. no one fell in.But, that would have been good TV! Although, I did jump in after the show with my clothes on. I needed the cooling off… and boy was it cool!

Tommy D, Gerardo and I went out on wave runners and we explored all of the way through Antelope Canyon. So gorgeous!

I caught this very large tourist boat on its way out of the narrow canyon. I can’t believe it fit way back there! I took pictures of them – they took pictures of me.

I took this next picture myself – of myself:

I set the camera on a ledge at the side of the canyon and set the timer…. It only took 2 tries!

RV Log Wednesday, May 7 – FLAGSTAFF

There was a very windy storm on the drive from Page to Flagstaff. And COLD! The RV swayed and swerved a bit, but all-in-all I managed to keep her in the right lane. Check out the snow and clouds at SnowBowl:

I was very proud of my parking job in front of the Orpheum upon arriving in town. Can you believe it – no one had to guide me in and I was just inches from the curb!

We anticipated a very cold setup that night at The Weatherford. We broke out the heaters for this one! NAU students were leaving the local establishments a little after we arrived for our crew-call. Not as many as I would have thought, but they were into finals week. Still, I was a little jealous that we were going to work and they hadn’t even gone home yet.

Thank goodness for fireplace warmth and really good food. The Weatherford served us an excellent breakfast. Sam even had it ready for us at 3:30 (that’s AM) so we had time to sit down and enjoy it.

I caught Olivia on the balcony of the Hotel getting ready for her next segment….

RV Log Thursday, May 8 – WILLIAMS

Just a short trip down the road, the little Railroad town was definitely Grand. I love trains, and they have the best! Check out how much fun Olivia was having with the train whistle!

Talk about the proverbial kid in the candy shop….

Now, I love horses, and our Williams hosts kindly provided a few for me to interact with when I had a few seconds here and there. Many thanks to the Mountain Men who let me enjoy the company of their trusty steeds – Scout, Henry and Gunsmoke.

When Tara was doing her interview, I caught this interesting and somewhat incongruous perspective of the horse-drawn carriage and the TV trucks behind. The old and the new…

Olivia interacts with a viewer:

We really enjoyed the musician, Steve Reynolds, and this is a picture of Dan taking a picture of him as he played:

I caught the GMAZ talent getting ready to depart at the end of the show. What fun!

At the end of every show we do promos for the next one. You can tell Dan loves his job by the smile on his face:

And now Dan shows how excited he is in this action shot getting ready to hand off the mic to Olivia!

Off to the last day!

RV Log Friday, May 8 – PRESCOTT VALLEY

At long last, the week has come to an end at Tim’s Toyota Center. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos. We were pretty tired at this point, but I have say, you must go up there for sporting events and concerts. The place is terrific and much more intimate than anything in Phoenix.

Olivia was so excited about being a cheerleader again, the head cheerleader came to me to make sure she was going to return the top they had let her borrow!

Dan’s spur segment was great and Brad and Gibby’s volatile exchange about shaving his beard was entertaining. Where’s the Young Brad!?

Thanks to everyone who came out ot see us and I always love talking to the viewers. You guys rock!

Happy Trails,

Robin Fancher Carter
