Crime Stoppers and Harris County Precinct 4 investigators are asking the public’s help in solving a March 15, 2008 theft of live copper cable on Atascosita Road in the Kingwood area.

The copper cable belongs to EMBARQ Corporation, which provides local and long-distance home phone service, high-speed Internet, wireless services, and satellite TV from DISH network to customers nationwide, including over 200,000 residential and business customers in Texas. The company has incurred losses exceeding $130,000 in the Houston area during the past twelve months.

Jim Hansen, EMBARQ vice president of Network Services, noted that in addition to the monetary loss, cable theft such as this puts both citizens and businesses at risk due to the loss of emergency communications when cables are cut.

Crime Stoppers and EMBARQ are offering a combined reward of up to $6,000 for information called in to the Crime Stoppers 713-222-8477 tips hot line that leads to the identification, arrest and charging of any suspects in this and related cases of theft of EMBARQ copper cable in the greater Houston area. All callers remain anonymous.
