excuse me? a $5000 reward to catch a mugger? oh I see, it was in a ritzy rich neighborhood. Well, that makes all the difference! How dare this street trash enter into a such a place to commit their crimes. You folks just keep on watching your stock portfolios and not caring about joblessness, falling wages and rising secondary education costs. If our elected officials would start prosecuting the employers of illegal workers and handing out some real prison sentences IMHO wages would rise. Oh my bad that would cut corporate profits, Wal-Mart might only make 20 billion instead of 50. What would we ever do? WAKE UP AMERICA!! Your country has been sold to the highest corporate bidder!

Paul, go buy a clue.

MEGABYTE,
ever see a 5k reward to catch a mugger in 3,4 or 5th ward? how about sharpstown? gulfgate, greenspoint? what makes a mugging in “GREATWOOD” WORTH 5000 dollars???

Kristin said:

When you start paying the tax dollars to live in a nice neighborhood
then you will understand why there is a 5k reward being offered.

so what your saying is crimestoppers is really just a bunch of self serving vigilantes protecting their own ass?
and all this time I thought they were dedicated to the cause of bringing criminals to justice.

dude relax…
it says UP to $5,000.
critical thinking is dead

Before you starting crazy, you should investigate first. Crimestoppers is a program that pays anyone in the public for information leading to arrest or conviction of a suspect in a publicized crime. All callers remain anonymous and can recieve up to $5000 cash reward. Instead of being ignorant to the fact, open you eyes and see that almost all Police Departments have a program that pays you for information. I check all those sites all time, because that easier money to gain than playing the lottery. Crimestoppers is not funded by taxpayers money either. It comes from sponsors and business and donations. Even victims friends and family. So its obvious that rich people would drop $5K in a few hours to solve their case, while some people post bank account numbers and beg on TV just to bury the body. DO you think their friends and family volunteer any money to get information from the public fast?

you know it’s not even really that crime stoppers is offering up to such an enormous amount as 5k, and yes I didn’t miss that. the fact that the media jumped on it so fast and had to throw the number in there to elicite a speedy response. I felt the same way about the kid that shop lifted the 74k rolex and a 5k crime stoppers reward was offered. there are some really grizley crimes going down out there that aren’t getting squat for media coverage never mind a crimestoppers mention. if you dont start caring about crime “over there” you can expect a lot more of this.

Crome Stoppers my rear end. This is a setup for HPD to looks like they cars patrolling the white peoples areas.
How come no crim stoppers ever in the
other areas? seems a little fishy?

Anonymous said:

Hey nought head Greatwood is not in HPD’s jurisdiction, thats the sherrif’s department. Crime can happen to any one any time, besides I did not know there was just a white people area in town.
From what I have always seen all subdivisons are very mixed with many varities of people. The problem is no one wants to really admit that there is
a high crime problem all around.Crime stoppers has nothing to do with HPD patrolling areas. You know as well as I do when HPD does there job they get proscuted all the time by enough said.

Jerome said:

No white people part of town? You have to be kidding. Bellaire, Memoroial, Hunters creek, river Oaks…. etc. etc. & so forth & so on.

J said:

Stick to the facts please. If you want a crime affecting you to be posted on Crimestoppers, then hand up the $5K. Why are some people getting mad that a crime which happened in a rich area get attention. If these people open their pocket, drive down to the office and hand over the $5K reward and say post my victim’s crime today. Do you think Crimestoppers will refuse?
On the other hand, if your cousin was a victim and you sob and run to office empty handed and say can you please post the crime today. Do you think Crimestoppers will comply? It is not because you came emptyhanded. But the limited funds they have to use solve all the crimes assigned in the Greater Houston area are prioritized.
Also, Crimestoppers is not there to solve ALL crimes in Houston either. It is a program setup to gain information on crimes that Police Departments, which are members, need assistance in solving. Or any crime where the victims friends/family/whoever came up with the money on the own and figure that posting will help solve it faster than the overworked Police Departments.
So stop being childish and investigate it rather than just guessing.

Jerome said:

Oh, I see. If you have the money to post, then crime stoppers will help out.
Dude, you just proved my point that crime stoppers is geared for more established folks.Greatwood, Bellaire, Meyerland, River oaks etc. etc. so on & so forth

J said:

Obviously Jerome, you can’t read otherwise you wouldn’t have made that statement after my previous post.
Secondly, The POLICE Department of the City, County or State are the ones whose JOB it is to DETER AND SOLVE CRIMES. NOT CRIME STOPPERS, They just happen to be a program which started in the 80’s which figured out that if you offered money to the public that PEOPLE WILL TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY KNOW ABOUT CRIMES COMMITTED.. YOUR TAXES, if you pay any, goes to the POLICE DEPARTMENT. ACCORDING TO CRIMESTOPPERS WEBSITE, “Crime Stoppers of Houston is a citizen-operated charitable organization whose mission is to solve and prevent serious crimes in the Greater Houston area in partnership with CITIZENS, MEDIA, and the CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.”
Just like any charity, ANYONE can donate money to them to help them continue on their mission. Business, victims families, grants from wherever, etc.

If you doubt me, just look at the news and that mugging of the 101 year old woman. People get mugged (aggravated robbery in TX) every day. Usually it get assign to a Detective or Police to solve along with other crime.
But everyone is so outraged, that immediately they offered a reward. Rewards are not offered on every mugging, but people offered it and now as of 2pm today, another person just offered $5K from their pockets to make it a total of $18,000. That is perfect example of how Crimestoppers work.
So believe if I see that guy in Houston, i will be calling that number.

The people here, and I won’t say names you know who you are, that are complaining about it being a $5,000.00 dollar reward because it’s in a ritzy, WHITE community, give me a break. The family members, friends of the victim came up with the money. We choose to be successful and not jobless and living off of the government, for situations like this. And stop saying all their are nothing but white people in ritzy neighborhoods, THERE IS A MIX OF ALL RACES. Talk about being racist. And you accuse white people of being racist when you don’t even know. Get over your poor self and check into reality. I’m so sick of hearing how you guys aren’t treated fairly and blah, blah, blah, when you’re the ones that are prejudice.
