HPD Police Chase Policy

Tonight on 11 News at 10, I will be visiting with Leon Rudd about HPD’s new pursuit policy. Rudd is the father of Rikki Sanchez, a young woman who was killed in an automobile accident in March. A suspect fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle ran a stop sign and hit the SUV she was driving. She died instantly. Sanchez is the mother of 2 small children. It was certainly a tragedy. Rudd has hired attorney Loren Klitsas and plans to file a lawsuit against the City of Houston this week. Because of a recent Supreme Court Ruling that basically protects law enforcement from any litigation when it comes to police chases, Rudd knows his chances are slim. But he feels like he must fight back, and wants to get the word out about the dangers of police pursuits. He feels that under most circumstances that chases should not happen. Check out his interview on 11 News at 10. Or later on our website. www.khou.com

Fed up with blame said:

I am so tired of everyone blaming the cops when they are doing their jobs. They risk their lives on a daily basis and no one appreciates them, until something happens in their family. If they were to let all of the suspect go that they are chasing, then that would be a problem too. That same supsect could be wanted for hurting someone in your family or a friend. Let’s stopmaking the cops the bad guys when thing go wrong. If no one wants a chase to happen, then everyone should stop calling the cops and deal with the people that are breaking the laws own your own WITHOUT ANY VIOLENCE!!!!!and
