Fraud suspect targets Hispanics

Authorities need your help finding a fraud suspect who has been preying upon Hispanics.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office and HPD say that in at least three of the cases, the suspect offered to help the victims post bond for relatives, but he did not post bond and disappeared after taking the victim’s money.

In other cases, he took the victims’ money after claiming he could get them cheaper bus tickets or could help them take care of traffic tickets.

Authorities say the suspect targets Hispanic victims who do not speak English well, if at all, and in most of the cases, he takes the victim’s identification.

The suspect has been seen in the Sheriff’s Office’s Bonding Office area located at 49 San Jacinto.

Information has been posted in that office to alert the public.

The suspect is described as being in his 30’s, 5’6″ – 5’7″, 160 – 180 pounds, with black hair.

He usually wears a light colored dress shirt, dark dress pants, and carries a briefcase or satchel.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Brasher, HPD Major Offenders, at 713-308-3140, or the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000.
