Fireworks stand operator shot

December 28, 2007

Police think they know who shot a fireworks stand operator early Friday morning.

The incident happened around 1:15 a.m. at Clay and Prairie Meadow.
The suspect and the clerk got into some sort of fight, even though the stand had already been closed. Police aren’t sure if the suspect broke in.
The clerk lives at the stand. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in serious condition.

I drive through there often. How can the clerk live at the stand? It is a temporary stand. Are any of the statements in this story actually true? “Some sort of fight”? Who made this statement? Police? Witnesses? Assumption? Break in? Another assumption. Is this story a best guess to an apparent incident that maybe occurred?

Actually, the operator CAN live in the stand. I did it when I ran a stand back in the early ’80’s. In the stand I operated with my husband, there was a small room inside the stand, at the end for sleeping accomodations. So, that is a fact, not a fallacy. Of course, we had to go to local establishments for restroom facilities since there was not one at the stand. But for sleeping, it was quite comfortable.
