Police Chief Jim Elliot said Kallen Matthew Bubela, 26, confronted his wife – from whom he was separated – at a home in the 800 block of Hayden. Bubela reportedly shot his estranged wife once in the head with a 9 mm pistol.
The man then fled the scene as the woman’s brother gave chase. As he chased the suspect, the brother was shot at several times, but the gun misfired, said police.
The brother eventually gave up the chase and returned to give his sister first aid.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect was later seen near a home on Wharton street where he shot himself in the head after the gun misfired three times.
The victim, Alisa Renee Bubela, was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was in critical condition.
