I'm sitting here in the NBC workspace crossing my fingers that Elsie Windes can make it here today. The silver medal winning women's water polo team was supposed to stop by last night about 9:30pm, but never made it. Elsie knows I'm trying to get an interview with her to send back via satellite (for all you Elsie fans back home)!! That's been one of the best parts about covering these games; bringing you the stories of how Oregon and SW Washington are connected to this amazing international sporting event. What a treat to interview our fencers Mariel Zagunis, Becca Ward, and Seth Kelsey.. our awesome rower Josh Inman.. Coach Nate McMillan and the Team USA basketball players.. the talented band kids from South Salem as well as Hockinson and Vancouver.. the sculptor David Lawrence Field.. the Team USA Chiropracter Ted Forcum.. profiling Kara Goucher.. hanging out with Oregon's Ann Curry on the Today show set.. eating odd foods with Diana Kuan and Jacob Redding (Portland State University grad).. discussing pollution with OSU Professor Staci Simonich.. working out with Mike Case from 24 hour fitness.. running into the pin trader whose son goes to the U of O.. you name it, we've run the gamut. My job here is the same as it's been for the previous three Olympics I've covered; to try and deliver to you a look at the Olympics that you won't get from NBC sports or network programming. It's impossible to cover everything and everyone linked to Oregon and SW Washington, but I've tried. And I have had a phenomenal time here. It's a little weird to see the packing boxes come out. A little weird to think about taking down the pictures I've taped all over the wall of my hotel room. A little weird to think that these games are fast coming to their conclusion. But they are. I'm not done blogging yet, and I still have a number of stories to feed back. But for now, I'm waiting for Elsie Windes. What an awesome job I have!! 7 CommentsLeave a comment |

It's both an awesome job you have and an awesome job you do.
The Olympics may be coming to an end, but memories never will. Also, the ending means you're about to get some much deserved time off. Enjoy it. :)

I second all the comments left above. You do fantastic work! I wish I had your job in the Olympics for just one day. Maybe I'll see you in Vancouver or London, with a lot of luck, I plan to go.
I so look forward to all your live shots and interviews with the athletes. You have done an awesome job and it always seems like you are having fun. Heard a rumor that Today wants you to sign w/them. You and Ann Curry are trading spaces.

Hope you are getting some much needed rest now that the olympics are over. You deserve it for all the long long hours you put in. Have your photographer take some more pics. of the sites you get to visit on your own. Looking forward to your coming home.
