Wow. I mean WOW. I've only been to two Olympic events EVER in the 4 Olympics I've covered. Fencing in Athens when Mariel won the gold.. and fencing in Beijing...... when Mariel won the gold. I'm seriously giddy. Mariel, Becca, and Sada all rocked the house!! Mariel and Becca are both from the Portland area.. Sada hails from Atlanta. Check out this slideshow of the Oregon medalists, including a group shot! Oh yeah, and then former President Bush shows up and shakes their hands and I just thought to myself... man, is this awesome or what?! Today was a wild media day for the ladies. EVERYONE wanted to interview them. They got applause from the whole NBC workspace when they walked inside today. We did a little bit for the midnite Saturday newscast and will have more Monday at 5 and 6. You gotta check it out!!! This is my favorite shot.. Mariel saw me coming 'round with my still camera and made that face at me during her NBC sports interview!!! It's my screensaver right now. :-) Look for a "fencing" slideshow later- I just dropped the pictures in our FTP site-- but it's the middle of the night there, so no one may get to posting them until Monday. 4 CommentsLeave a comment |

Will you get to see more than one event in Bejing? KGW should pay for you to see some others at least!
Can you comment on the apparent young age of the Chinese women gymnasts? Does the IOC verify the ages of all participants? If any member is found to be too young would they be disqualified and any medals won lost or go to the next level winner? Is it too political to demand verification, just as in drug tests?
Serious props to these three. It's just a shame that they're all in the same event and can't win three golds!
Glad to see you are having a great Olympic time. That's awesome that you got to see the Oregonians win Olympic medals. Great pic with your camera too.
